Rays Dangling Edwin Jackson For An OF'er

    MLBTradeRumors.com -

Rays Trade Talks To Pick Up?
Joe Smith of the St. Petersburg Times says the Rays' trade talks for an outfielder "should intensify in the next couple days." Smith suggests the Mariners, Dodgers, and Angels as teams with outfielders to spare. He believes the Rays might part with an out of options pitcher like Edwin Jackson or Jason Hammel. Hat tip to DRays Bay, which speculates on Andre Ethier, Delwyn Young, Reggie Willits, Juan Rivera, and Jeremy Reed as possibities. The Halos seem like a pretty good match.

Additional outfielders the Rays could consider: Matt Murton, Gabe Gross, Xavier Nady, Jason Bay, Jay Payton, Coco Crisp, Shin-Soo Choo, David Dellucci, Randy Winn, Dave Roberts, Kevin Mench, Nathan Haynes, Nelson Cruz, and Ryan Freel. Whew.

Edwin Jackson for Ryan Freel would be a heist, to say the least.

The Rays can't possibly be that stupid.

The Rays would "consider" Jason Bay for Edwin Jackson?

Reds would no doubt have to include cash if they want to get Jackson.

Another thing is who do you send down to make room for Jackson? He's out of options and Coffey and Bray look good. Burton has been tarnished a bit this spring but he was the most relible arm in the pen after the break last year. Stanton looks like he's going to make it by default.

If we could send Freel + cash for Jackson sign me up and put Edwin in the bullpen. He has sick stuff.

I don't get the love for Edwin Jackson. No, not at all.

I might be willing to trade Ryan Freel for him, but seriously Edwin Jackson's star faded a long time ago. Maybe he has just been miscast as a starter, but he has been nothing short of awful in his major league career.

Edwin Jackson might top the list of pitchers I don't want. He's all kinds of awful, a Luke Hudson wannabe.

Freel won't do it. I'm guessing they'll get a better, cheaper player. Jackson has plus stuff and youth still on his side.

Jackson has had a pretty good spring from what I hear. I wouldn't hate that deal.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

Am I the only person here who would rather have Freel over Jackson?

I think Edwin would be an intriguing arm to take a chance on. Certainly wouldn't mind moving Freel to get him. Put him in the pen, use him in low-pressure situations and see what you've got.

    23.2 IP, 20 H, 1 HR, 9 BB, 11 K, 4.56 ERA this spring.

Nothing much to write home about.
