On WVXU they used to play old radio shows. There was a funny Jack Benny episode with Richard Widmark playing his typical gangster tough guy who comes into Jack Benny's restaurant. Of course everything is very threatening etc, but it turns out he just wants to know where Jack got his curtains made. I think he did a piece on the Lucy show too, same schtick.

Richard Widmark could play a great heavy. In his later years, he had a corner on the cynical naysayer who was opposed to whatever the hero wanted to do. Not the kind of roles that get a lot of critical attention, but important nonetheless.
