The day off after Opening Day is lame

I always highly dislike this. It's pointless. Why, just because it's the start of the season, do you have a scheduled off day in the middle of a series? Doesn't happen at any other point in the year. Very strange.

Today feels like being a kid again and it is the day after XMass.

They probably do it so if Opening Day is cancelled, they can play it again the next day and only honor tickets from Opening Day fot admission to that game. That way they don't have to give out rain checks.

Beat me to it. Are we the only club who does this?

Not even close. Only 8 MLB games on the schedule today.

I agree, though. It is lame.

Maybe Opening Day is very tiring?

I was going to say there are a lot of off days in the April schedule for weather, but then I looked at the schedule. There is one today and one on 4/14 and that's it. So never mind.

    Having today off is dumb.

I hate the day off after Opening Day as well. But oh well, Ohio State plays basketball tonight (I know, I know....it's baseball season, put the basketball away) and it will give me a chance to watch the tape of yesterday's game and before we know it it will be 7:10 tomorrow night!

I believe WOY posted a story about the day off after Opening Day being an old tradition.

In the past the Reds would play the Opening Day game against say the Cubs, then they'd travel by train to Chicago on the off day, and play the Cubs home opener on Wednesday.

I could have entirely made that up, but I'm pretty sure I'm remembering the story correctly.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

I heard once it was a courtesy to the non-local players (most of them, nowadays) to get their personal lives in order...find an apartment/condo, make sure their car was delivered, etc. Since they don't get into town until Sat night, with a workout Sunday, there isn't a whole lot of time for such things.
