    Twins sign Danny Graves

    Ummm...why?

    http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/17176021.html

The Twins signed former Reds closer Danny Graves to a minor league deal. He is expected to join the Rochester bullpen after getting his arm into shape. Graves, 34, had 33 saves for the Long Island Ducks last season, leading the independent Atlantic League.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

Now that Santana's gone, Graves is part of the rebuilding process in Minnesota....

Once upon a time, you're right.

I go back and look at that stretch where the Reds converted him to a starter, then put him back in the bullpen as the ruination of his career. He never was a great closer. He simply didn't have the stuff, but his attitude didn't wear well.

I'd like to forget that era - 2001-2007 - but I can't. I just hope we don't have to add 2008 to that span of dates.

How exactly does one get his arm in shape to throw the gopher ball?

For me, the big surprise is that Graves is only 34. I guess I never realized how young he was when he was effective.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob
