    Pine Tar Peavy??

Hmm, only on the thumb, index and middle fingers. I wonder what those figures are used for?

Players, understandably, always looked for that edge. Recently, the longtime pitcher and broadcaster Jim Kaat recounted how he would use a homemade substance of resin and turpentine on his pitching hand — something that was against the rules — to get a better grip on the ball. An umpire once saw the stuff on Kaat’s hand, approached the mound and said: “Lefty, you’re putting a foreign substance on the ball. That’s illegal.” Kaat replied: “That’s not a foreign substance. It’s made in North Carolina.”
