    Now Batting Leadoff, Nick Swisher

Found this interesting from Yahoo player notes:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7435/news

Apr 8 OF Nick Swisher continued to impress from the leadoff spot, going 1-for-4 with a double and his ninth walk of the year Monday. What manager Ozzie Guillen really likes, however, is the .469 on-base percentage. Enough so that when Jerry Owens is ready to return from the 15-day disabled list with his groin problem, not only could there not be a spot, but there definitely might not be a leadoff spot for the speedster. "I'd rather be a guy who gets on base," Guillen said of his leadoff hitter. "All of a sudden he gets on base six times in a row by walks, and we need people on base when you have (Orlando) Cabrera and (Jim) Thome behind you. You get on base, you're going to score a lot of runs."
Nothing to see here. Please disperse.

Why do all this "walking" when a Home Run is just as good? Isn't it more fun just to swing? DUH!!
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

    Unpossible.

You have to FAST to score runs. Everyone knows that.

Don't forget the productive out making. Productive outs are key!
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Whoa..you get on base you score runs? I thought getting on base was only ok if you can steal bases? otherwise you're out there just clogging the place up.

    Yeesh..never gonna win like that.
