Maybe, just maybe Bochy wanted Bocock at the plate for that atbat. To further WOY's point Bochy knows what kind of team he has. He knows that this team is awful. He knows that the future of the club belongs in the hands of his younger players. He knows that one win in April during a 90+ loss season isn't going to matter. What does matter is the development of his younger players. Maybe Bocock was the intended batter because Bochy wanted to see how he performed in a pressure situation.

The other thing is Bocock would appear to be who the Giants have nominated as their starting shortstop of the future - and so why would Bochy not want to leave him in - give the young guy a chance as Redszone would want the REDS to do. Would there be an outcry if Dusty let Freel hit and then replaced Votto with Hatteburg.

The difference here is that Votto is a guy who won awards in the minors, excelled in AAA last year, and was successful in a cup of coffee last September. Bocock had a .621 OPS in A+ ball last year. He hasn't earned a spot in AA, let alone an ab in a game winning situation in the majors.

Imagine if tomorrow, the Reds pinch hit for Votto with Hatteberg in a walk situation and Drew Stubbs on deck. Except imagine that Stubbs was a young Juan Castro.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

So... ya think Joe stayed up last night writing an article about how the Giants moves worked last night?

    Code:
      Bottom 9th: San Francisco
    - B. Molina singled to deep right
    - R. Davis ran for B. Molina
    - R. Davis stole second
    - F. Lewis grounded out to pitcher
    - J. Castillo lined out to second
    - D. Ortmeier doubled to deep center, R. Davis scored

    1 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors
San Diego 0, San Francisco 1
Nah...... that would be no fun.

The only thing I surmised from that article was that the Giants need a new GM.
Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand
