Re: Thursday April 10th Minor League Updates

BTW, Birmingham's starting pitcher - Kyle McCulloch - was the White Sox 1st round pick in 2006 and entered this season as BA's 10th ranked prospect in the White Sox organization.

Chattanooga hitters touched McCulloch up for 6 runs off 9 hits, 2 walks, and 1 homer (Gutierrez) in 5 innings. Not a bad performance there by the offense.

Belisle's on the mound in the 9th. Lookouts do have relievers warming up in the pen.

It's nice to see the hits, but all those singles are wasting perfectly good BB opportunities - sorry washed up has-been.

Two Reds guys off to excellent starts after rough patches last year. Valaika and Szymanski.

After being written off, wouldn't it be nice if Szymanski once again became a highly touted prospect?

Reds really have a lot of good prospects in this system.

Majewski is getting absolutely scorched right now. He's faced three batters and has given up a homer, a double, and a single.

Performances like this will help keep Majewski out of the Reds bullpen, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Two more batters faced by Majewski ... the first was a bail out by a very nice play by Adam Rosales. The second batter smoked a double into the gap.

Majewski has faced five batters and given up four hits, three of those for extra bases.

Frazier finally had a hit tonight, a double in the 8th. His 3 AB slump is over.

How long until we get rid of Majewski and he ends up in Washington?

Tonys Gutierrez is an interesting player. He's always hit for a nice average and drawn his share of walks but hasn't hit for much power. He's a career .302/.399/.420 hitter in the minors. I've always considered him an interesting guy if he could develop a little bit of power and this year may be the year he does. Tonight's homerun gives him two homers in 24 atbats so far with 5 BB/2 K. He'll never hit for enough power to be a starter but he could be a decent bat off the bench as a backup to Votto at 1B. He also plays a little bit of the outfield.

What is the deal with BJ Szymanski this year? Everyone had written him off, but I see him starting to collect hits.

He needs to be released, this is just ridiculous. He's had a ton of opportunities to get it together, Krivsky just needs to give it up - this guy was a lemon to trade for.
