To be fair, you've gotta listen to a show like Stern / O&A / Imus for a little while. Half of the humor on the show is lost if you don't have some familiarity with the players involved, their histories, and how they react to things. To understand that, you've got to at least listen for a week or so to pick it up.

Howie is a legendary radio figure---love him or hate him, you have to give him his due--he and Rush Limbaugh (not a fan, just giving props) spearheaded the explosion of talk radio. (I know, that could be a good thing or bad, depending on one's listening preference).

How does Rush get away with being such a hypocrite? I guess you can say that about a lot of radio talent

Back before I had kids big enough to understand the words, and it was free radio, I was a regular Howard listener. The days when Stuttering John and Billie West and Jackie were on the show just classic. Especially when they went after Bababooey and Jackie or had Stuttering John interview famous people with inane questions.

The Stern show is on vacation this week, and today they did a best of Stern that was all Stuttering John interviews. It was great. Since I only was able to listen to him for the last two years on Terrestrial radio, its cool to hear the old stuff. When ever they replay an old show though, you really see how much less they take commercial breaks.

As for people that think all Howard is about is lesbians, sex, drunk dwarfs, what not, you should really sit down and listen to it. While that is a portion of the show, its hardly even half of it. Most of it is them busting each others chops, getting into arguments, or just talking about random stuff in the news. I think the best time to listen to it is between 6 AM and 8 AM. Personally, I don't enjoy the portion of the show when they make fun of mental retardation, so I typically choose to turn my dial at that time. But when the show is going good, I sometimes will sit in a parking lot for 10 minutes cracking up laughing and dreading to turn off the radio to get on with my day.

Have you heard the Stuttering John interview with Billy Crystal? They replayed that the other day on Master Tape Theatre. That was very funny.

Isn't he on the Tonight Show now?

Yes, Stuttering John is on the tonight show now. I have heard he makes around $500,000 a year.

I am not sure if this attachment works or not on here but here is an audio of Howard promoting XM before he signed with SIRIUS. Very funny hearing this. (fifty second segment)

Some have made some very good points that I wish I had thought of first....the Stern show is more than lesbians, mental retardation and porno....the real hook is hearing the interaction between the cast members....who have been together so long it is like eavesdropping on a family....
