First Phillips sits against a lefty, now Hopper starts against a righty.

Yes, I'll always find something to complain about with the lineup...

Griffey and Dunn back-to-back was SO smart and refreshing. Of course that means it couldn't stay that way. :thumbdown

I've decided to stop commenting on my preferred lineups. I just wish I understood better what Dusty is thinking.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

The Phillips is the cleanup hiter thing bugs me much more than CP or Hopper as the leadoff hitter. And Dunn in a spot where his walks and OBP are largely wasted.

The LOOGY puts much fear into our hearts and minds.

Exactly. If you're facing a righty, why not make that starter face Griffey-Dunn-Votto in succession, light him up in innings 1-5 and take the LOOGY out of the equation? It feels like one of those generic decision made to avoid blame rather than foster success.

What if the Reds pitcher gets lit up too? Now you have a tight game in the 7th or 8th and the LOOGY can come in and dominate those three. Just a thought.

I get the feeling that perhaps Hopper or Freel are being showcased.

Jay Bruce is going to be up by mid may IMO and one of those guys is going to have to go.
School's out. What did you expect?

Patterson is a career .225/.244/.250 hitter against Ben Sheets in 40 atbats. Still, that's a huge defensive downgrade from Patterson to Hopper.

    1. Dunn is still pretty good against lefties

    2. If we actually had a platoon mate for Votto, we could PH for him

    3. The 7th and 8th innings is usually when you see the other team's top setup guys. They are usually pretty good. I don't see it as that much of an advantage...

What hitter isn't historically worse against Ben Sheets? Filth. It's freakin' Corey Patterson. The only reason he is on this team is to play CF...

BP needed a breather, just like EE did a few days earlier. seems to be working for him.
