But is the gettin good right now? His value has to be pretty low, especially with his salary set to escalate next season.

What would you do? Wait even longer?

There's not really a good time for this--trade him by the deadline, save the payroll for a younger option next year.

No...but I can't see him yielding much until (if?) he turns it around.

Most other teams aren't flat out dumb. They know he is owed $22ish million over the next two years.

A good reputation can stick to a guy longer than his performance merits--it happens all the time. And really his contract isn't that prohibitive to a team that still believes he's an above average pitcher.

I guess the hard part is finding that team who believes in that.

Well--if it's any comfort, many on the board still believe he is.

I'm guessing a stats GM like Beane wouldn't mind him if he's in the race at the deadline. He'd only surrender one dinger a game in Oakland as opposed to two or three in GAB. He'd probably look a lot like 2006 Esteban Loiaza out in Oakland.

I think the Reds are too thin on pitching as it is. Volquez and Cueto are still question marks and certainly Belisle (if that is the new #5 option) is too. Arroyo is at least somewhat proven. If the Reds plan to "go for it" next year and the year after, I don't think punting Arroyo is a good idea. Maybe slot him down in the rotation, but there are far too many question marks still to think about getting rid of him unless it's a deal that can help the Reds immediately (or at least by next season a la Volquez).

I don't want to punt him. I want to get a good young rotation arm for him at the deadline.

Center Field? Catcher? First Base? Anywhere else on the field for a day off?

They don't have any near ready arms. That is one of their problems...

You've just traded 200 IP from your rotation for Freel?
