    Corey Patterson

People need to realize that Patterson was signed as a result of Dusty's recommendation. Not really Krivsky's fault.

Why is it that he cost 3 Million when he was just sitting around? I thought he was signed to a ml contract or just invited to spring training?

I had no idea that it was a $3M contract too. i don't understand that.
because at the end of the day, they still are the Chicago Cubs, and they will figure out a way to screw this whole thing up--Marty B.

His agent is Scott Boras. All of his players are overpaid. That is why they hire him, and why so many of his clients sign late. No one wants to deal with him.

After watching Patterson in Baltimore for the last two years, I can tell you guys will be frustrated with him. No, he's not going to live up to his top prospect billing that he had when he was with the Cubs.

But for what he is, he's a good player and he's fun to watch. He was actually one of my favorites over the past couple of seasons. A little bit of pop and a lot of speed...he can drop a bunt and beat it out, he did it several times. He's a good to great base stealer and provides good defense in centerfield. Some O's fans will contest that he took bad routes to balls, but I think thats a pretty hard thing to judge from watching in the seats or watching at home.

Yeah, he's probably not worth 3 million...but sad to say, thats fairly cheap for a player these days....I'm sure you wouldn't have to look hard to find players who are doing less and earning more.

He's one of the fastest guys around and will be a good 8-9 hitter for your team when the lineup turns over.

Two of my favorite Patterson photos from last year:

IIRC, he beat that one out easily.

He would make a good pinch runner.

It is true that to this point for the Reds his AVG and OBP leave a lot to be desired but you can't ignore the fact that he has played a good CF. In addition, it must be pointed out that he has more RBI's than Dunn, Phillips, Carlos Beltran, and Ryan Howard. He's doing that by having a SLG of .524 and that ain't bad.

    It's a 1 year contract; don't worry too much.

Then move him down to 6th or 7th in the lineup wehre Dunn and Phillips might actually have people on base when they come up to drive in.

I'm definately not a Patterson fan, and he should be hitting 8th if he's going to be in the lineup, but Dunn and Phillips couldn't drive in Tony Gwynn right now.

Patterson had no competition to warrant 3 million. Defensive CF is fine and all, but would Freel perform any different at the plate? Has better past at the plate and is better at OBP.

I just don't understand at all the desire to pay Patterson for what...a bit better defense?

Most likely true, but Dusty didn't force Wayne to sign him for 3 million. I think the criticism on this signing is due to the fact that they could have signed him for less.

Very simple. CP was a decent pickup. 9 days a week when he plays he should bat 7th or 8th. Never, ever, never, never, ever leadoff or 2nd.

    Dusty Baker=sadness
