    Can Drew Stubbs Lead-off?

Looking at Stubbs' skill set it seems that he would be a perfect lead off batter (high OBP and fast). However, when they tried to do that in Dayton he looked abysmal at the top of the order. Was his poor lead off performance due to not putting it together yet, not choking up on the bat, or doesn't have the mental ability to lead off a game? I don't want this to get into a discussion of how good/bad Stubbs is. I know he is a ways off from Cincy. Now that he is at the early stages of putting it together, I wonder if they will try and bat hit at the lead off spot.

I would leave him out of the leadoff spot. Guys with contact issues shouldn't be taking hittable pitches, which is what you ask leadoff guys to do at times so the rest of the lineup can see the pitcher. In his career in the minor leagues, here are his numbers in the leadoff spot versus everywhere else in the lineup:

    Leadoff - .260/.363/.376/.739
    Non leadoff - .295/.377/.433/.810

I agree with that. With someone like Stubbs, you want him to get as many hittable pitches as possible. Although Jeff Keppinger is a good hitter, he probably won't provide quite the same threat as, say, Jay Bruce or Joey Votto around the time Stubbs is with the Reds.
