I don't get why, more often than not, this lineup just doesn't work, why do you keep it as the status quo?!?

Continues to boggle my mind that BP bats cleanup, especially versus righties. If he didn't do it last year, I don't think it would ever have occurred to Dusty to put him there.

Extreme small samples, but for 2008:

    vR: 89 PA, 253/.292/.410, 20 SO
    vL: 26 PA,.435/.500/.957, 2 SO

There is absolutely no reason EE should be batting 6th and BP 4th.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Perhaps Dusty feels that EE feels too much pressure on him when he bats cleanup.

I agree completely. If the value of speed is in the runner obtaining extra bases, doesn't it make sense that speed is most valuable (and least costly if caught) when the guy at the plate is least likely to advance you with is bat?

    Keppinger
    EE
    Dunn
    Junior
    BP
    Votto
    Freel/Patterson

Many managers feel that young hitters should stay out of the pressure spots in the lineup. If you move EE and Votto up, they may start swinging for the fences. I tend to agree.

If the outfielders would hit, the batting order would be less of a concern.
