    Turnbow DFA

    Just saw it on Rotoworld.

The $3.2 million price tag is a little steep for a guy who needs work, but his K/9 has been eye-popping for several years.

Would you take a flyer on him?

I probably would, but then again, I'm a sucker for power bullpen arms, even ones with control problems.

He's Kyle Farnsworth with a better temperament. I'd pass. I don't want him taking innings from somebody we've already got. I'm guessing he ends up in Philly.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Todd Coffey with less control (and more heat). I'd probably pass.

Wow. Success as a reliever is fleeting, isn't it.

This guy was rescued from the scrapheap, worked his way to closer and then lost it in what...3 years?

If we could get him on a split major/minor-league deal with a promise to bring him up once he had some success at the AAA level, I'd be willing. I'm sure he would enjoy going up against the Brewers several times/year.

when he was throwing the other night against Chicago he was topping at 90-91 with no command. He's either injured or finished.

Amazing what happened to these types of players once Baseball got tough on the Steroid policy. :
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

He is really, really bad. Assuming no one picks him up (I doubt they will), no harm signing him to a minor league deal, but I certainly don't expect much.

There's generally no harm in signing anyone to a minor league deal.

I think I read that assuming he wasn't claimed, he would be back in AAA. If he refused his assignment, it would make him a FA where he would forfeit his salary

I'd think Colorado would take a flyer on him with Corpas struggling as he is they could use a set up guy for Fuentes.

I would only pick him up if he would go to AAA first.

Believe it or not (and this is the 1st time I can say this in a long time), there isn't 1 arm in the Reds bullpen I would swap out for Turnbow.

If his velocity is down to 90, then I'd probably stay away after all.

No way. Even in the year the guy was in the All-Star game, the guy's been horrible for three years.
