I just don't think there is any harm with keeping him in Dayton unless he shows he is clearly overmatched (striking out a ton and not walking much at all). I don't think that is going to happen though because he covers the plate well and has a good understanding of the strikezone.
I'm far more concerned about his defense in Dayton than his offense. To his credit though, it looks like he's improved with each start. It's too early to say either way I guess.

I'm going to disagree here. I think you need an overall plan of level by level advancement with Mesoraco. A month in Dayton, before returning him to Billings to catch guys like Lotzkar and Ravin, is a nice way to help him move up permanently to Dayton in 09. It's not just that you want him to "keep his head above water," you want him to thrive and gain confidence. He's got a better chance of doing that in Billings than in Dayton (especially after spending a few weeks in Dayton). The only way I'd keep him in Dayton is if he's absolutely mashing, and I doubt that happens.

So if he is hitting .250/.340/.400 you send him to Billings?

My concern with Mesoraco is that by the time he's actually a prospect, he's going to be Rule V eligible and nowhere near ready.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Plenty of time, plenty of time. If he looks legit, put him on the 40-man when the time comes and there's nothing to worry about.

He doesn't have to stick to the 25 man for six more years. He has time.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.
