If they're not going to break the bank, count Alvarez and Hosmer out for sure. My guess is you'll see a guy like Scheppers, Hunt, or Freiderich if they're going for slot guys. And with all the great players available in this draft, I would be less than enthused with any of those guys.

I don't know about breaking the bank. I would imagine any owner or GM would have to evaluate each player based upon the skill and then decide whether the investment is worth it.

How many "expensive" draft picks pan out?

it'd be nice if the "Buckley pick" and the "best available pick" would overlap this year.

    got a chance

    My preferred order:

    1. Matusz
    2. Alvarez
    3. T. Beckham
    4. Smoak
    5. G. Beckham

I agree, although it would be a very tough call between Alvarez and Tim Beckham.

Matusz would be great...but I'm just not convinced he'll be there by the time the Reds pick. One of the Beckham's would do. I'd continue to eye Scheppers as well.

For anyone looking for good draft sites, which are extremely difficult to find, this one is really good.

FYI, it's got the Reds picking Aaron Crow in their mock draft

Real rough and dirty mechanics. Arm injury waiting to happen if you ask me (and others for that matter).

I had a dream last night that the Reds drafted Alvarez. I don't know if that means anything, but if any of you put stock in that, I just thought I'd share.

I keep debating pitcher versus hitter. I want both badly. I just keep thinking the Reds wouldn't have had to trade Hamilton if they had been developing their own pitching talent the last fifteen years. Hitters can be acquired, pitching is so valuable.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

A teammate of mine went down to Georgia for a predraft showcase. I asked him if anyone stood out there, and he told me that Todd (I had to correct him and say Tim) Beckham pretty much made everyone there, including himself, look stupid.

    Is that good or bad?
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
