    Joe Blanton revisited

Blanton's era is 3.89 for Oakland. But looking into his numbers, he is averaging almost 7 innings per start, and has given up only 2 runs in 4 of those starts and 3 in one other. He's definitely more of a #3 or #4 pitcher, but would be a nice compliment. His era would probably be more in the middle 3's in the NL.

    Just creating conversation.

And all that foul territory creates more outs in Oakland, which makes pitchers look much better.

I might have been one of those guys that wanted Blanton and probably even mentioned offering Volquez as a starting point. That would have been bad.

I would like to see a play for Blanton and a subtraction of Arroyo.

Oakland wanted Cueto for Blanton. No thanks. Oakland is tied for first right now, I don't think Billy will deal him for some young bucks until he needs to and can capitalize his return on him.

The ERA of 3.82 looks nice without any context, yet his ERA+ is 101, meaning he's average for the run environment that Oakland has played in so far this season.

Not saying it isn't valuable, but without knowing who the Reds would have had to give up in order to attain him, it's hard for me to get too worked up over the Reds not trading for him.

I said in offseason I would have liked to got Blanton but not for Cueto/Votto.
At the time I probably "would " have included Volquez and I'm sure glad that didnt materialize!
