Austin Kearns is really, really bad

We knew he wasn't good, but he's even worse than we thought. Austin me boy has managed to follow up his awful 2007 season with an even worse 2008 so far:

.216, 3 HR and Dumbo still wants his ears back.

meanwhile FeLo has won his job back, and is getting on base. the power is gone, but the OBP is back.

FeLo I think has some talent, just is far too obtuse to accept help improving his game. Kearns has never been the same since Ray King.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

.339 OBA, .682 OPS won't get it done.

Don't worry...Kearns still has his defenders. Someone will talk about how park factors don't tell the whole story about his poor batting average and how exceptional his defense is.

Actually, maybe they won't this time around. It's going to be pretty hard to defend.

This trade may end up being ok. Especially with the 3rd guy we got. Forgot his name, but doing well in the minors. Bray back up. I hate to see it actually. I was a big Kearns fan! I'd take him over Patterson.

I was looking at his numbers earlier today and thought of making a similar thread. Yeah, his numbers are simply miserable.
Lopez might be doing a bit better, but I will take Phillips and Kepp over him any day.
Meanwhile, I noticed Wagner hasn't pitched yet this year - and when he did last year, he was getting shelled. Heck of a ball club JimBo is building over there.

Is it too late to play the small sample size card?

Hmmm... you want real stink? Here's Adam Dunn's stats when the game is "close and late" according to ESPN: .176 BA, .333 OBP, .176 SLG [!!], .509 OPS -- not an offensive powerhouse.

Here's Kearns in the same "close and late" situation: .259 BA, 1 HR, .412 OBP, .370 SLG, .782 OPS. Mix in Kearns' DEFENSE, where a case does not need to be made against Dunn's, with his having rented a forklift to track down fly balls, and consider the laughable situational hitting on the Reds, I'll take Kearns' year so far over Dunn's.

Kearns has actually been hitting better since May 1st: .310/.412/.414

He was at a season low of .182 on April 30th, and hit an anemic .161/.278/.247 for the month of April.

My hunch is that Austin will be back to his usual .265/.350/.450 by the end of the year.

Kearns and FeLo were not worth the money they were making and what they were due to make.

Krivsky recognized that "negative value" and traded them for a couple of smaller negative values (Clayton, Maj), a spare part (Bray) and a lotto ticket (Thompson).

Of course you would, being one of the biggest Dunn bashers on this board.

But let's cherry pick close and late stats to make a blanket statement about a player, b/c that's sound logic...

You'd probably take Andy Green over Dunn on the Reds' roster, too.

Oh come on; you're talking about 21 PA. For his career, Dunn has a line of .232/.374/.483/.858 in close and late situations. That's quite a bit better (and a much larger sample) than what you've tossed up on this thread. Personally, I think the split is specious. Runs all count the same no matter when they score.
