Griffey stars in new Ohio tourism campaign

While speculation mounts that Griffey will soon be packing his bags to head off to another team, Ohio's tourism department has him starring in a campaign to get people to pack their bags and travel to Ohio.

Ohio tourism officials are banking on Jack Hanna and Ken Griffey Jr. to convince tourists to make the state more than a day trip.

The state's Division of Travel and Tourism on Tuesday unveiled a new print, radio and television advertising campaign that will extend through June, the peak planning period for Midwest travelers looking to get away in the summer and fall. Columbus-based Ron Foth Advertising developed the marketing push, which features Columbus Zoo & Aquarium Director Emeritus Hanna and Cincinnati Reds star Griffey.

The slogan: "Too Much Fun for Just One Day."

"We know from our research that overnight travelers significantly outspend day-trippers," Tourism Director Amir Eylon said in a release. "We believe that we can convert many of these day-trip stays into overnights that will positively impact Ohio's economic bottom line."

Data from market research firm Longwoods International indicated one out of every five of the more than 171 million visits made last year included an overnight stay.

The campaign, cost details for which weren't immediately available, specifically promotes three-day getaways from nearby markets including Detroit, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Louisville and Charleston, W.Va., where most of the ad buys will be made. Consumers in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown will be targeted through marketing this month, the office said.

Bah... Jack Hanna has been a FL resident since God knows when. If you want to see him, go to Busch Gardens.

    He is strictly ceremonial.

He is also a long time resident of Montana. My wife knows him through some business dealings and his place in Montana has been described to both of us as "breath taking"...not by Jungle Jack himself but by some of our friends who visited.

Isn't Junior also a resident of Florida?

    Jim Tressel too, right?

Seems pretty obvious to me. This means the Reds are getting ready to trade him to the Indians.

Slogan should be "Pack your bags, I am."
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
