I don't agree with this at all. Volquez staying in at 95 pitches and in a case where a pinch hitter should be up to try to extend the lead.

So was Dunn's walk a failure? Should he have swung at a bad ball out of the zone, or was he right in letting those poor pitches go by and taking the walk?

And Dusty is a ... fill in the blank.

Volquez strikes out swinging. 4-1 Reds after 5.

Yup. We've seen Dusty go down this road before. Tonight he can claim he needed Volquez to go another inning. Here's to hoping the Reds start the inning with somebody up in the pen.

If Dusty waits until 3 batters and 15 pitches before getting somebody warm, I might go nuts. Hopefully Volquez gets some quick outs and makes it a non-issue.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Why does Hairston run there? He's probably going to score on a single anyways. All he's doing is risking an out for very little gain.
A lot of ways to score from 3rd -- like on a bunt.

The pitch count debate will go on forever... I am one who believes you should be able to pitch 100-110 pitches every single time out... People bring up Wood and Prior... Wood has the worst mechanics in the history of the game and Prior was hurt even before he started his pro career. Zambrano consistently pitched into the 120's and has been healthy for the most part....

Jay Bruce update: 2-4 with a single and a double.
Benzinger backing and calling! And the 1990 world championship series belongs to the Cincinnati Reds!

Dusty should have the pen warming. Volquez should not exceed 110 on this start, especially after 118 last time.

0-2 single. Get him out Dusty.

0-2 fastball down the middle. Why not a changeup?

Okay, time for him to go. Hit the showers, kid.
