As I've previously mentioned, my target walk rate for Bruce in AAA is one walk every 12 PAs. With his two walks today so far, he's at one walk every 13.54 plate appearances (last season and this season combined). He's knocking on the door of my target walk rate, and that's exactly what I've been wanting to see.

By my calculations he's right around one walk every 10.6 PAs against RHP. It's the LHPers that he doesn't walk against.

I still think as Bruce continues to rip the cover off the ball, he will get pitched around a little more. As that happens, he will draw more walks. The kid understands the zone fairly well. He isn't a hacker despite what his lack of walks might suggest.

But, since I am only basing this on his stats, maybe those who actually follow these 2 can fill me in a little more.
I think Danny Dorn will win the 2009 RedsZone's Chris Denorfia Award. Heisey will win it in 2010, and Brandon Menchaca will win it in 2011.

Jay Bruce just hit an absolute laser off the wall for a double.

Bruce doubles. He's 2-for-2 with a double, triple, and two walks. Amazing.

He's narrowly missed two homeruns today, both most likely would have been gone in Cincy. IIRC two of his triples this season have been off the wall so he nearly has 10-11 homeruns instead of seven.

I think it's time to give Bruce his own verb.

Easily. When he hit that double I thought it was gone off the bat. That thing was absolutely destroyed. He squares the ball up better than any prospect I have ever seen (not that I have seen a ton of prospects, I am barely 24.... but he puts the fat part of the bat on the baseball more than anyone I have seen in the minor leagues).

His lack of homerun power concerns me. Obviously he's not dedicated enough to spend some time in the weightroom.
