WASHINGTON -- Nationals slugger Adam Dunn hit his 300th career home run Saturday, ending Braves rookie Tommy Hanson's consecutive scoreless innings streak at 26 with the milestone blast.
Dunn hit a 2-2 fastball two-thirds of the way up the second deck in right field leading off the seventh inning, cutting Atlanta's lead to 3-1.
Dunn is the fifth major league player this season to reach the 300-homer plateau, joining Houston's Lance Berkman and Ivan Rodriguez, and Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko of the Chicago White Sox.
The 29-year-old is the fifth player major league history to reach that total in less than 4,200 at-bats, succeeding in his 4,145th at-bat. The others are Babe Ruth (3,830), Mark McGwire (3,837), Ralph Kiner (3,883) and Harmon Killebrew (3,928

Bumping the best thread since I've been on Redszone to post some season ending facts. Not to steal Atomic Dumpling's thunder because he did such a great job with this thread, but here goes. Adam Dunn's streak of 40 HR seasons has come to an end, but he did hit 38 which gives him a streak of 6 straight years of 35+. In another thread, Dougdirt posted that only A-Rod, Sosa, Palmeiro, Foxx, Ruth, Mays and Kiner have done that. 4 HOF and 3 roid guys.
Dunn finishes with 316 Career HR which puts him in a tie with Ron Cey for 106th on the all time list. In 2009 he passed Reds greats Ted Kluszewski, Paul O'Neill, Eric Davis and Reggie Sanders. Dunn also passed HOFers Ryne Sandberg, Rickey Henderson, Chuck Klein, Rogers Hornsby and Al Simmons. Next up is HOFer George Brett with 317. 35 HR in 2010 will also put him past HOFers Gary Carter and Hank Greenberg. He'll also pass former Reds sluggers Ron Gant, Dave Parker and George Foster. 40 will get him past Greg Vaughn and Lee May as well.

Very disappointed AD didn't get to 40. But he still had a great season.
I was looking over the list of All Time home run leaders and see that Adam Dunn has cracked the top 100 on May 4th when he hit #321, tying Ron Gant. Dunn moved into the #100 slot on 5/6 with his 322nd homer. David Ortiz is at 321 too, so it's possible that Adam and he will leapfrog each other some this season, although that's not a given.

Nah, Dunn will leave Ortiz in his dust as the year evolves. Ortiz is a shell of what he once was.
He's got a good shot to tie Chili Davis at #79 (350) by the end of the season.

I was a baseball fan during Chili Davis' entire career. And I can honestly say, I had no idea he had gotten to 350 career homeruns. I am amazed by that.

2380 career hits, 350 homeruns, and almost 1400 RBI from 1981 to 1999.

His career numbers are shocking, actually, given that he hit 30 HR in a season only once, had 100 RBI in a season only once, and his 167 hits in his rookie season were a career high. Furthermore, he made the All Star team only three times, so that might explain why his career numbers come as a surprise.
Help stamp out, eliminate, and do away with redundancy.
I was also surprised to see Chili Davis on that list. Surprised me quite a lot.
BTW, I agree that Dunn is likely to leave Ortiz in the rearview mirror. At this moment, it's possible Ortiz could hit a couple to leap over him, but by season's end, it won't be that way.
