I didn't remember Dale Murphy playing with the Rocks. I'm assuming this is Dale Murphy of Braves fame. I think he played with the Phils too but I thought that was it for him.

It's amazing the start Dunn got off to in 2003 in the homerun department. He hit his 14th homerun of the year on this date five years ago, and then proceeded to homer in the next two games to give him 16 homers by May 17th. He then hit a pinch-hit 3-run HR for #17 four days later on May 21st, and then hit a PH grand slam five days later and finished May with 18 homeruns through two months. It really looked like he was on his way to a 60 homerun season. He homered four more times in the first 12 games of June to give him 22 homers, but then only hit five homeruns from June 16th to August 15th, the day when he injured his thumb and stayed in the game and hit a walk-off homerun only to land on the DL the next day and miss the rest of the season.

Murph was released by the Phillies as one of the final cuts before the 1993 season (4/3/1993), and signed by the expansion Rockies on the same date. He played in only 26 games for the Rocks, hitting a robust .143/.224/.167/.391 with no HR's and 7 RBI's.

Only 26 games with the Rocks is the reason I don't remember him there. Murphy had such a dramatic drop off at the end of his career is probably the reason he will never make the HOF. For a period of 5 or 6 years with the Braves he was a good a player in the game as anyone.
