    Valaika had a 7 BB/28 K ratio in 135 atbats at Sarasota; It's 3 BB/5 K in 27 atbats at Chattanooga.

Tonys Gutierrez is a walk machine. He came into tonight with a .342/.467/.467 - .933 OPS with a 28 BB/21 K ratio. His walk in the first inning was his 29th.

I know he is considered more or less a non-prospect at this point. But why wouldn't he make for a good backup 1B in the bigs and a solid LH bat off the bench? Does he not project to be able to hit at the MLB level?

Lookouts announcers Larry Ward and Will Poindexter were earlier raving about Gutierrez's plate discipline, walk totals and on-base percentage. Gutierrez's lack of power may prevent him from landing a starting gig in the majors at first base, but he's already real interesting as a potential solid bat off the bench.

Yep. He can also play a little outfield. His versatility plus his great OBP skills could make him an asset off the Reds bench as early as next season. Lord knows we could use some solid depth on the bench...

Todd Frazier just belted his second homerun with Sarasota and his organization leading 9th homerun of the year. He's 2-for-3.

In an organization like the A's that appreciates on base skills, Tonys might be on the fast track to the big club. He's only 24, don't see him as a non-prospect. If he continues this type of performance, I would think he will be in the major leagues someplace fairly soon. No?

Lee Tabor relieves Wood and throws a 1-2-3 8th inning with a strikeout.

Sounds like he could be a valuable bat off the bench in a year or so, if nothing else. We need to upgrade our woeful bench bigtime
