Dusty is old school in this respect too. I like it.
I wish he could figure out how to get this team straightened out...I don't really think our players are as bad as our record...Sure our offense has been slow to start...maybe it is Jacoby who needs to hit the bricks? Let Dusty bring in his own hitting coach...now, what about our Defense?

Again, I'd love to have Dusty on board as my Don Zimmer. I think he's built to be a perfect bench coach.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
I am glad that Encarcion and Dusty showed some passion and erupted. I like to think that it means that they have had enough of this too, just like us.

Just saw Dusty's interview during the rain delay and even though I've been one of his harshest critics, I must say he is a very likable fellow.

What he did was fine. Managers have to do that. And I don't think he bumped the ump either. Got a raw deal there IMO. But it's a "lose lose" situation whenever a player/manager squares off with an ump on the field. Umps can basically say what they want and even go out of their way to bait people.
Does showing such passion wake a team up and get them going? IMO, rarely. An intangible. Simply having a manager who "cares" or shows passion (emotion) is not what it's going to take to turn this team around IMO.
A manager can only do so much. You win with talent.

It worked very well for the Cubs last year, but I don't know if this team has it in them.
What worked well for the Cubs? Are you saying that a passionate (emotional) manager was the reason the Cubs won the division and made the post-season?
The emotional aspect had very little to do with it IMO. Spending millions and millions did. The Chicago Cubs signed two players for $211 million....Soriano ( eight years for $136 million), and Aramis Rameriz (five-year for 75-million). They acquired Kosuke Fukudome (four year, $48 million). Other examples can be sited. The point is they spent BIG, and IMHO, that is what drew Piniella to Chicago.
Plus the fact the NL Central has been one of weakest divisions in baseball.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not against a manager being passionate, showing emotion, etc. But a Lou Piniella going on a tantrum in the field and throwing a base makes for good entertainment and highlight footage; but had very little to do, IMO, as to why the Reds won.
Yes - you want players who are passionate and want to win. I'm not going to say that this Reds team lacks that or plays without heart as much as they simply like talent in key areas.
