Jay Bruce mentioned in this weeks Prospect Hot Sheet

    IN THE TEAM PHOTO

What can we write about Triple-A Louisville CF Jay Bruce (Reds) that hasn't been written before? After batting .385/.407/.615 (10-for-26) on the week, with two home runs, four RBIs, six runs, a walk and seven whiffs, he's now batting .368/.399/.655 with 10 home runs on the year. His recent tear has catapulted him to first in the International League in average and hits (63); third in RBIs (37), triples (five) and slugging; and fourth in extra-base hits (24) and runs scored (33). As to when you may see the 21-year-old Bruce in Cincinnati? Reds GM Walt Jocketty recently told Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News: "If he keeps playing like this, we're going to have to get him up here some time soon. What we don't want to do is bring him up and not have him play."

    NOT HOT

    • Homer Bailey, rhp, Reds. Three Reds starters—Bronson Arroyo (6.02), Johnny Cueto (5.56) and Matt Belisle (6.75)—have ERAs north of five and a half, but don't look for Bailey to help remedy that any time soon. He went 0-1, 8.10 in two starts for Triple-A Louisville this week, logging 10 innings and surrendering 10 hits (one home run), nine runs and 11 walks, while striking out 10. Bailey, 22, hasn't logged a truly dominating start since April 30, when he whiffed 10 Toledo Mud Hens in seven innings, and in his last three starts he's been downright horrendous: 14 1/3 innings, 21 hits (two homers), 16 runs, 13 walks, 11 strikeouts.

I use to have the hardest time when Redszone would say that strikeouts doesn't matter, I think that with Bruce I can see that now, strikeouts don't seem to hinder his production/performance numbers.

Centerfield is wide open for the kid to play. Don't try to tell me it isn't Walt.
