Good for both of those guys. They're probably both aware that their future wasn't in the majors anymore. At 30, why the heck wouldn't you want to go see another part of the world and more or less, get a fresh start?? Seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm guessing the pay is a little bit better than the AAA salary...

BUT BUT BUT... his FIP, his xFIP, his DIPS, his SHIBBYDIBBYCRIP are ALL better than Arroyo, so he should be a solid #3 or even a 2 some day...

I think that in a year or two, one of these guys - Frazier, Dorn, Valaika, Cumberland, Stubbs - will be ready to replace Dunn. They won't hit as many home runs as Dunn, but they should have similar OPS. - 757690, July 22, 2008

Alonso will be playing 1B for the REDS and batting 4th one year from today. - Kingspoint, July 9, 2009

    Transactions

Posted by ShannonRussell at 5/30/2008 6:26 PM EDT on Cincinnati.com

Today the Reds sold the contract of minor league RHP Tom Shearn to the Samsung Lions of the Korean Professional League and traded to the Cubs minor league RHP Jim Brower in exchange for cash considerations. Both were non-roster invitees to Major League spring training camp.

    Shearn went 6-2, 4.53 in 10 starts for Class AAA Louisville (57.2ip, 60h, 15bb, 31k, 8hr).

    Brower went 0-1, 2.88 with 2 saves in 17 relief apps for Louisville (25ip, 27h, 11bb, 28k, 1hr).
