What does age have to do with it?

DFA Javy and call up him up, Patterson will go once Keppinger returns, IMO, or I at least hope so. Either way both need to go, dead weight but the only saving grace for Patterson is he can play CF, and at some point we have to have someone in case Griffey gets hurt again. I'm not wishing this but he has not gotten hurt for several seasons now and our OF dept isn't that great.

I could live with DFA'ing Valentin. We need a right handed hitting 1B. Javy is not a right handed hitter either.

Losing either Patterson or Valentin would leave the Reds with only one lefty off the bench. A team usually needs two, since most pitchers are RH. The only way Andy Phillips comes up is if the Reds decide to go with 11 pitchers. Not sure that's a great idea.
With Bruce up, the bench got a lot better with Freel their full time.

According to reports, they did just that...

I, for one, can't believe it. What's next - KGJ out of the #3 hole?!?! NAAAAHhhh.....

    PEACE

I think that in a year or two, one of these guys - Frazier, Dorn, Valaika, Cumberland, Stubbs - will be ready to replace Dunn. They won't hit as many home runs as Dunn, but they should have similar OPS. - 757690, July 22, 2008

Alonso will be playing 1B for the REDS and batting 4th one year from today. - Kingspoint, July 9, 2009

Lets see if A. Phillips starts at 3B tonight. Any takers?

Good. Ryan Freel gets more playing time.

Wow. We now have Freel/Phillips coming off the bench instead of Patterson/Hatteberg.

    How we lookin?

I wasn't trying to use his age as an aggravating factor. I was just surprised that he was 31.

    VERY happy with this move.

Wow, did not see that one coming at all! At least, not this fast, LOL

Go Andy and YAY Walt for making this decision!

As was mentioned earlier, there's one more move they have to do, get Griffey out of the three spot.

Goodbye Corey Patterson, hopefully for good. Was Walt just waiting to see how last night went with Bruce? I kind of thought Corey would be moved before Bruce came up.
