    From the Orlando Sentinel
    Jamie Mallard – 1B/DH
    Tampa, Fla./Middleton
Listed as No. 351 in the Perfect Game Crosschecker top prospect national rankings…Named to The St. Petersburg Times and The Tampa Tribune’s Hillsborough County Second Teams…Hit .411 with seven homers as a junior while also collecting 26 RBI…Batted .438 with a pair of home runs as a sophomore…Helped Middleton advance to the 5A regional semifinals…Featured in a Sports Illustrated for Kids article that highlighted the top five power hitters in the country under 22 in 2002, when he was only 11 years old…Godson of former major leaguer Carl Everett.
Bryan Peters: “Jamie Mallard probably has the most power I have ever seen in terms of recruiting. He has the type of power that in BP both teams stop what they are doing and they watch how far he hits the ball. He hit a home run out of Tropicana Field in Tampa at 13 years old. And it shows up in the games too, he’s not just a five o’clock hitter. Hand Size, hand speed and bat speed equal big power with Jamie. And he moves well for his frame of 250 pounds. He has soft hands, is agile and has plenty of arm strength.”

    Some comments:

Carl Everett had a godson? Who knew? Can the dept. of social services take away godchildren in addition to your real children?

If I ever balloon to 250, I want to be known as someone who "moves well for his frame of 250" - particularly by the ladies.

Apparently when he pitches, he throws sidearm-submarine style. As Texas Rangers' scouting director, I am a sucker for fat submariners. I wanna see that sub tip over.

Here's a breakdown of his swing, with video. Texas is happy to get the potential next Cecil Fielder at pick 89.

Re: 2008 mock draft seclection thread

With the 91st selection in the 2008 MLB Draft, The St Louis Cardinals Select: Jordy Mercer SS Ok St.

GM John Mozeliak on the results of the 1st 3 rounds: "We are ecstatic with how the draft has fallen for us. We managed to get 3 outstanding arms who will move quickly through our system with a few tweaks and a young man who we believe still has some upside offensively and produced very well at the college level in Mercer."

On Mercer: "We will get him every opportunity to stay at SS, but we feel that ultimately worst case scenario his bat will play anywhere and 3B could very well end up being his major league position."

    The Cardinals picks:
1st - Christian Freidrich LHSP Eastern Kentucky - Best Pitch: Filthy Curveball
2nd - Michael Palazzone RHSP HS (GA) - Best Pitch: Nasty Change-Up
3rd - Aaron Weatherford RHRP Mississippi - Best Pitch: Splitter (Best Pitch in draft?)
4th - Jordy Mercer SS Ok. St. - Athletic, Strong Arm, Good Power

Re: 2008 mock draft seclection thread

Isn't camisadelgolf in Germany? Time zone is a bit off the "conventional" mark, I think he usually posts at night.. tho could be wrong.

Also, OBM, could you post an updated list after his pick or on the newest page of this thread? That really helps not having to dig so much.

    Thanks!
