Question about Riverfront Stadium and GABP

Weird question, but I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a picture with the footprint of Riverfront Stadium as it stood compared to GABP today. I'm also wondering if they have any spots marked off. I know the Rose garden on the west side of the concourse (by the kiddie area) supposedly marks the spot where Rose's record breaking hit landed. Does anyone know if that is exact?

I'm really hoping that they have everything figured out so that whenever they decide to develop that site, they will have, for instance, a home plate marker or a marker for the bases. Just from gauging where it used to stand, in relation to GABP (from pictures before it was imploded) I would assume Main Street, which has since been extended, goes through what would have been the deep infield or shallow outfield.

I just have so many fond memories of Riverfront Stadium and although I love the new GABP, I miss the old lady big time, and I hope they make sure to remember her with exact markers of key locations.

I think it's pretty neat what they did in Atlanta. Although they built a parking lot on top of the old Fulton-County Stadium (just north of Turner Field), they marked the imprint of the old field on the parking lot and even have a garden in the middle of it, marking the spot where Hank Aaron's record breaking HR landed. See link below.

Re: Question about Riverfront Stadium and GABP

I just found this site which has pretty cool aerial photos of the stadium the day it was imploded.

    http://www.cincinnati-transit.net/implosion2.html

By looking at the 4th picture from the top, you can see how Main Street (when extended) would go through the outfield.

They said at one point Riverfront stood something like 26 inches from the GABP when it was being built. Does anyone know what part of GABP that was? I'm assuming it's probably down the LF line in Riverfront. Maybe it was where those seats ended after being cut out and the second series of stairs/ramps on the west side of GABP?

    That's a beautiful photo, WOY.

Here's the best I can see with google.

    http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=3...06716&t=h&z=18

What would be awesome is if someone had the ability to photoshop this satelite image with the exact footprint of the stadium all the way down to the locations of the bases to the inch.

Also, how do I paste the image from this link into the thread so people don't have to click the link? I can't believe I don't know how to do this and it's 2008. Thanks.

I have heard that it's the exact spot, but I'm not for certain myself. By looking at the pictures though, it's at least very very close to that spot. That "Fan Zone" section of GABP encompasses the area that once was deep left and left center field of Riverfront. The Rose Garden is on the outside of the stadium in that section so it's very conceivable it would be in the spot where Rose's hit landed.

That would have been down the left field line. I remember walking up the red seats in Riverfront out that way while Great American was being built, and it was a heckuva view. I didn't like Riverfront Stadium at all, but then again I wasn't around to experience the BRM days. I have to be honest, despite the lousy product on the field at the time, I had a lot of fun in Riverfront in 2001-02 after they blew the hole in the outfield and installed grass on the field.

    Here's some interesting pictures:

    From that website:

It will likely be another five years before the entire riverfront reconstruction is complete, but when it is it will be among the nation's best.

Re: Question about Riverfront Stadium and GABP

For many years it was thought that Roy Rogers' birthplace was at second place in Riverfront, but modern mapping technology eventually put it closer to Second Street.

you know, its not a bad looking ball park with the outfield cutout.

It's funny now, but when they cut the wedge out, I thought that was just fine.

Wierd, but I had almost forgotten about the big, giant batter's eye that was installed in Cinergy after the "bite" section was removed from the stadium.

IIRC, that thing was taller than the Green Monster, although the Monster looks massive on TV, and the black eye in center didn't look that big on TV. I actually dug the "new" Riverfront those last couple of seasons.

Krono, I never smelled anything adverse at Riverfront. Did you make this up?
