Weird question, but I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a picture with the footprint of Riverfront Stadium as it stood compared to GABP today. I'm also wondering if they have any spots marked off. I know the Rose garden on the west side of the concourse (by the kiddie area) supposedly marks the spot where Rose's record breaking hit landed. Does anyone know if that is exact?
I'm really hoping that they have everything figured out so that whenever they decide to develop that site, they will have, for instance, a home plate marker or a marker for the bases. Just from gauging where it used to stand, in relation to GABP (from pictures before it was imploded) I would assume Main Street, which has since been extended, goes through what would have been the deep infield or shallow outfield.
I just have so many fond memories of Riverfront Stadium and although I love the new GABP, I miss the old lady big time, and I hope they make sure to remember her with exact markers of key locations.
I think it's pretty neat what they did in Atlanta. Although they built a parking lot on top of the old Fulton-County Stadium (just north of Turner Field), they marked the imprint of the old field on the parking lot and even have a garden in the middle of it, marking the spot where Hank Aaron's record breaking HR landed.
