A word game we play at work

im an air traffic controller at langley air force base and it gets rather slow at times so we are constantly coming up with games that can get rather serious with stats and win/loss records (greatest game ever is pen cap baseball btw) to quick word games. Anyways we started playing a word "link" deal a couple days ago that could be fun here.

To play: someone starts with a word say "detective" then whoever starts has to choose the 2nd word that will leave a "hidden link" to the 1st word. example "german shepherd" and "detective." The link for this would be something like Ace Ventura pet detective. Whoever gets the hidden link will then have the word "detective" to spin off of. It forces people to get creative when you have to find a link to random words like mesopotamia and whatnot.

If anyone wants to play I'll start with Bullwinkle and Andes.

Would the link be that they are both associated with the word "Rocky"- the Rockies and the Andes being the two largest mountain ranges in the Western Hemisphere?

This is an idea called "A to C" which is used a lot in training for improvised comedy.

    You hear word A
Word A makes you think of Word B
Word B makes you think of Word C
    You say Word C.

    Example:
    Dog
Dog makes me think of Cat
Cat makes me think of Paula Abdul
    I say Paula Abdul

It helps you honor the audience suggestions without being too linear or on the nose. It also allows your mind to go to new places and not get stuck thinking "Dog, cat, bird, worms".

Okay, this is going to be pretty esoteric, but "Andes" and "Marple"....

Most people wouldn't go from dog to Paula Abdul that fast.

For the purpose of this game it's better to keep the connections very close, but the use I was referring to in my post encourages finding new, non-linear connections (rather than repeating a linear string such as the dog-cat-mouse-bird example).

I'm sorry- I probably made that a bit too off-the-wall.

Both "Andes" and "Marple" are anagrams for great golfers- "Snead" and "Palmer". I was in a weird mood at the time.

Someone else feel free to start another one.

I don't know about tricky, but she's usually not the first person who might come to mind when I hear the word "dog."
