Baker is clearly worried about the bullpen. he has been stretching out both Volquez and Cueto lately.

5 run lead and a kid pitcher with 104 pitches already. I don't know how Baker can justify this decision. If a bully can't hold a 5 run lead better than a tired 22 y/o just pack it in.

Why give the kid a break? It's not like it's really hot, he's been hit hard, or the Reds have a comfortable lead. I mean, he's only thrown 100 some odd pitches. He's got at least another 15-20 pitches in there.....
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Jones grounds out to Phillips and Ramirez flies out to the warning track in right center. Two outs.

    Hermida grounds out to Phillips.

It worked but I'd rather give the kid a break.

Quality start for Cueto despite not having his slider tonight. That's the type of stuff I like to see out of a young pitcher.

Lindstrom nearly hit Hairston in the face with that pitch. Luckily he got out of the way.

Cueto is not that fragile. He's not throwing 130 pitches like Prior and Wood did.

I thought Dusty handled that very well. Gradually he is building Cueto's confidence. He finished with, what, 110-112 pitches. That's ok. And now Cueto has a quality start, ends on a high note, gives him more confidence.

I think I'm the only one, but I like the way Dusty handles these young pitchers. The easiest thing to do there was the hook, but Dusty stuck with him and Cueto came through without too much wear and tear.

Now if Johnny comes out for the seventh, then I've got a problem. But he probably won't.
