Patterson is athletic. Can he play SS?

    Could he be a good-glove, no-stick SS?

I would not be shocked to see Dusty try it. Anyway to get Patt some at bats, Dusty will try it.

That's not that bad of an idea. Meanwhile, let's stick Javier Valentin in CF. With his stick and his scrappiness, they'll be no stopping the 1-2 punch of Patterson and Valentin both in the field and in the lineup.

Valentin at leadoff with Patterson batting behind him, then he keeps Griffey 3, BP 4, Dunn 5, Votto, EE, Bruce, Catcher, Pitcher

Isn't Patterson left handed? Kind of hard to be a lefty and play middle infield.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

    Baker will make him ambidextrous.

What about Cueto in centerfield when Patterson is at short? Have you heard about how fast Cueto is? That might give us the fastest top of the order in baseball. And Cueto can bunt!

Patterson throws right handed, bats left handed

Sadly Cueto and Patterson's swings are a mirror image of each other, both flailing way out of control and coming into little solid contact. At least Cueto would give us some upside at the plate.

Not to hijack the thread, but I would love to see Griffey try first base before he rides off into the sunset. Marty said in fooling around in Spring training that Griff has the quick and soft hands to make infield plays. He also has a good arm and a good size for a target.

Shortstop is about the last position you would want to try someone in the middle of the season. Besides, if he could do it then they would be in the same situation they are now. Janish has a good glove but has trouble at the plate. Keppinger will be back soon and he will play everyday at short.
