    Where's the mute button?

What are those commercials, radio or tv, that have you reaching for the mute button as fast as you can grab it? I have a few that pop up on XM quite a bit.

    1. Life line screening. I don't know why it bugs me, but the ad starts with "real words by real people" and then the "real" people are so obviously reading their lines and trying to put added drama into their reading that I can't stand to leave the volume up.

    2. Tell them about the discount Harry. I don't hear it as much anymore, but this awning company recently made a different ad which is essentially the same thing, just without the annoying woman. This time it's two guys and one keeps pestering the other one to mention the discount. You would think if enough people complained about the other ad they would change the whole formula, not just the ad.

    3. Anything with Billy Mays.

    4. The Ad Council. They have several the permeate XM. Just about all of them annoy me.

There are plenty others I can't think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure I'll hear them soon enough.

The Columbia Hyundai commercials with the talking car. Those drive me to the brink of insanity every time. That and those Grippos commercials. I love Grippos, hate the commercials. The GoldStar commercials with that "Get lost in the Taste" song kill me also. Especially the high pitched ending. Skyline ads if for nothing more than frequency of the ads. 2 per commercial break is a bit excessive. Local ads are like shooting fish in a barrel though. Nationally, those stupid Ford Edge commercials.

Its not a mute issue but I hate the commercial where the woman is turning around inside the minivan to simulate what a 360 degree view on the computer would look like. I also hate the commercial for Secret where the woman in the tank top is walking down the street continually raising her arms.

I still think it should be illegal to have any radio commercials with sirens, etc. One of my pet peeves in the category of annoying commercials.

Besides that, commercials that sell with yelling, commercials that regard more adult topics, especially when they air them in early viewing hours, like when I am watching a day game on a Sunday, etc...

Oh man. Several years back, there was a radio ad that had a train diesel horn in it. I was out driving and crossing some RR tracks when it came on.

Words cannot express the pure and utter panic that hit me. I thought I was dead.

That's my number one issue with radio ads too. Sirens drive me nuts because it's so important to pay attention to those when you're driving. I agree with the yelling too and would add eating. I hate hearing people eat in radio ads. McDonalds once had a radio ad with someone smacking their lips and making "mmmm" sounds. Ugh.

They are not ads but your average NPR has so many of these sounds that I am often driven to the point of physical illness. It could be some sort of PTSD from my 2nd semester of law school when I sat next to a classmate who would try to eat bananas quietly in Plroperty Law. It was excruciatingly distracting waiting for that next chew/slurp noise as he paused for so long between bites. I complained to the woman on the other side of me one day. she thought I was nuts until he started up again in class that day.

I think I know what you are talking about. I noticed there are some shows where you can hear the person licking their lips or something like that when they talk.

I remember in my Wills class, we had two young women who would bring a pile of snacks to class every evening (took it over the summer). They would sit there with their snacks, eating the whole class. I couldn't believe the professor would tolerate it, considering they sat right up front.
