Alonso just made a really nice scoop to get the lead runner doubled up at 1B.
Granted it's college ball, but Alonso's glove looks to be quite a bit better than Votto's. He's not as athletic as Votto, but he seems more polished.
Just turned it on after watching the Open. Any idea when he's due up?

I love the pick. I've probably seen every one of his atbats in the Super Regionals and CWS and I don't think I've seen him swing at one bad pitch yet. His plate discipline is plus-plus.Originally Posted by Blitz Dorsey

I don't know who to compare his swing to. The closest I can come is Geoff Jenkins -- the max-force uppercut is similar, though Alonso is center-leftcenter oriented, while Jenkins is mostly looking to pull. Anyway, Alonso's is certainly a swing to behold.
Hmmm I don't know about a Geoff Jenkins comparison. Jenkins has arguably the most drastic uppercut in the majors. I can't really think of a good comparison myself though.
I've been thinking the same thing.
Maybe that's part of the reason we rated him higher then the other 1st basemen. If we want to religiously avoid extreme flyball pitchers in GAB, shouldn't flyball hitters be who we are targeting?
Dayton is off for the MWL All-Star break and Chattanooga has the night off, so Louisville and Sarasota are the only teams playing tonight. Billings opens tomorrow night and the GCL opens on Thursday.
