Re: AFI Top 10 films of each genre

How on earth are "Romantic Comedy" and "Courtroom Drama" considered genres while there is no straight-out "Comedy" or "Action / Adventure" category?

The fact that movies like Blazing Saddles, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Airplane! and Animal House are snubbed due to lack of an appropriate "genre" is beyond puzzling.

To get in as many movies as they can, presumably, since they've already run these lists in other genres about 400 times

Nice to see Harold and Maude filed as a romantic comedy though. It's usually classified as "cult", although I'll never understand why.

So did they forget about "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" or something? Or are they snubbing it because it's an Italian film?

"Lord of the Rings" is in the same genre as "It's a Wonderful Life"?

And they're supposed to be film experts?

At first glance I'd say since it's the American Film Institute, foreign films wouldn't make the cut but Lawrence of Arabia is an English film so who knows?

Yeah, I was going to go straight to the comedy list but nothing. Romantic comedies aren't funny. They're cute and cute sucks.

wow. i really hate those lists.

Sleepless in Seattle makes the top ten in romantic comedy? No Father Goose? blech. Shouldn't a requirement be the film is funny?

Maybe it's too current, but I have Serenity in the top 10 of Science fiction of all time. 1 million time better than T2.

The Fantasy section has Big and Groundhog Day (which isn't fantasy) and NO Princess Bride.

    morons.

Caddy Shack made it in the Sports genre?? I thought it was more of a Romantic Comedy

"Hey baby, you must've been something before electricity."

"You're a lot of woman, you know that? Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?"

    No Major League or 61?

    Stupid list IMO.
