    Dusty on Votto leading off...

Marty just said on the broadcast that Dusty told him that batting Votto in the leadoff spot was more than likely a one game, one time only thing....(Votto did get a leadoff hit to start the game)

Yet....Corey Patterson, who does nothing in that slot (or any slot) has gotten and will get continuous chances.....when he plays, of course.

I knew it. He did it and the Reds didn't win so that's why he won't do it again.

Just long enough to get people off of Corey's (aka Dusty's) back. It was an exercise in PR, not in strategy.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

It continues to Patterson's fault. Just like it was Castro's fault.
If they get rid of Patterson it will be, maybe, Javy's fault.

How about some blame for the guys who play every single day and don't hit.

Re: Dusty on Votto leading off...

"Someday, he is going to be two, three, five," Baker said. "I explained that to him. I wasn't crazy about hitting seventh one year. I hit 30 home runs that year. But it's a very important part of the lineup. You can't have too many low-average guys at the bottom of the lineup."

The numbers show Votto has done best in the seventh spot.

"He's like .333 in the seventh hole," Baker said. "He's .186 in the sixth hole, .286 in the fifth hole, .154 in the fourth hole.

"He might not to be ready to move up like we all want him to."

Who leadoff today and did Patterson play again today??With that great batting average that he has I am sure Dusty thinks he should play almost every game.
