    Javy playing third?!?....

I just checked...he's played 50 games at third in the minors, but none since. This could be interesting. :O)

Good thing nothing was hit his way in that inning, LOL

Any player athletic enough to make it to the big leagues should be able to play all of the positions other than pitcher and catcher for an inning without looking completely lost. I'm sure had he had a ball hit to him he likely would have made the play. The difference comes in to play with runners on base, situational things, bunts, wheel play, who'll cover the bag, what depth to play at, etc. As far as fielding a ground ball hit to him though - Any major leaguer should be able to do that.
"YES! He rips it. Is it high enough? It's gonna be gone! Adam Dunn has done it again. Big #44 can take all day to round the bases here, thats done and gone- lookout dunner they're waitin for ya at home plate." - George Grand

"Did that just happen?" - Chris Welsch

Maybe it is just that they are trying to justify carrying 3 Catchers... Which is a joke and wasting 1 Roster spot...

Dusty has Javy on his fantasy team and he's just trying to give him multi-positional eligibility.

So dusty will play Javy at 3rd, but leave Patterson in to hit in a 2-1 game, just for defensive purposes?

As a witness to it at the game today, we were all in disbelief. Myself, Cyclone, Highlifeman and a group of 4 other Reds fans had our jaws literally drop. As Javy came to pinch hit in the top of the 8th, we all got kind of excited as to what video-game-esque moves Dusty was going to make. Was Hopper going to play second, and B-Phil to short? We even thought we'd come up with the most ridiculous solution by sticking Dunn in at third.

Middle of the eighth, one by one they come out. Votto and Bruce (ok, no Dunn at first), Patterson and Hopper to the outfield (hmm, no Dunn to left or Hopper to 2nd), Ross already behind the plate (where's Javy gonna...no...), B-Phil to second and Keppy to....

Cyclone: "You gotta be kidding me."

And our beloved Pornstache waddles out to third. Unreal.

The hilarious part was watching him try and take place in the Giambi shift. He was CLUELESS where to go. High comedy for sure, and Dusty Baker, what are you doing? Looking at this thread, I guess since he played some games at at third in the minors...but my goodness.

Maybe his defensive skills at 1B & 3B rival his switch hitting ability.

I didn't mind the move. You're already down 4-1, and Janish is an automatic out, so you had to hit for him. And it wasn't Dusty's fault we were in that position. It was because of EE's injury.
