    George Carlin RIP

    Real sad news.

    George Carlin Has Died
ET breaks the news that comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital this afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business, and he had just finished his last HBO special in March, "It's Bad for Ya."

    A true king of comedy.

That's a shame, I've enjoyed his comedy for a long time.

Just remember, rape is funny, and we should all be allowed to kill a guy a month. Nothing wrong with blowing off a little steam.

There will never be another like him.

    He used words brilliantly.

    RIP.

    Wow.

A cynical, sarcastic, and brutally honest genius. The world could use more people like Carlin calling B.S. on some of the things that go on in daily life.

His better stuff was really, really good.

I highly recommend his book "Brain Droppings."

^ Agreed chili, as well as the followup, "Napalm and Silly Putty", I enjoyed both immensely. He was always my favorite comedian, and I JUST read earlier today where he was invited to some dinner to be the recipient of a pretty high arts award, obviously before news of this came out. RIP, GC.

    Javy,

Since you're clearly a fan too, if you haven't heard it, here's an interesting interview he gave to Terry Gross four years ago:

    Man, what a bummer.

Much like the loss of Richard Pryor, we have again lost one of the greats who completely revolutionized the profession.

    Godspeed.

I'll miss Carlin. Great eye for the human existence.

He was slated to receive the 2008 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in November. Previous winners are:

    1998 - Richard Pryor
    1999 - Jonathan Winters
    2000 - Carl Reiner
    2001 - Whoopi Goldberg
    2002 - Bob Newhart
    2003 - Lily Tomlin
    2004 - Lorne Michaels
    2005 - Steve Martin
    2006 - Neil Simon
    2007 - Billy Crystal
    2008 - George Carlin (posthumously)

    That really blows.

I first saw Carlin's stand up on HBO in the early 80's, and I think he became the template for how I judged comics for the rest of my life.

I'll never think about bottled water in the same way because of him.

    Re: George Carlin RIP

I always got a good laugh when I heard Carlin's comedy. He could do funny bits about anything, he had a unique way of looking at the world...and when he did get vulgar and profane, it wasn't for shock value...it had a purpose. Obviously, it shocked people, but the way he used the words made it work....

    He'll be missed
