Got this off of Lance's blog. My guess, if we did have Hamilton, he'd be hitting 7th, and we wouldn't have seen Jay Bruce.

Ron Washington: We miss Volquez.
Man I didn't know Baker was such a philosopher.

I don't. Offense is easier to fix than pitching. Heck, the Reds have been a .500 team for two months with a bad offense and about 40% of a pitching staff.
Joey Hamilton is too old to help us anymore.
Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

How would Dusty know?
Personally I think the team misses Larkin, Bench, Robinson and Groh.
I'm not a system player. I am a system.
I think it's silly to assume that Hamilton would be putting up the same type of numbers here as he is in Texas.
I'll still take Volquez.
Go Gators!
Maybe Dusty is right..."We're striking out too much, man, far too much," said Baker, referring to the team's 564 strikeouts at the halfway mark.
2008 Games
REDS more Ks than opponent: 7-19 record (.269)
REDS less Ks than opponent: 25-20 record (.556)
REDS same Ks as opponent: 7-6 record (.538)
Just another out and coincidental? Small sample?

What can Hamilton bunt?

Give me a break! We do miss Hamilton. Not one person on this board can truthfully say that Hamilton's big bat wouldn't look awesome in this lineup. I will go so far as to say that with Hamilton in the lineup we would be less than 5 games back in the wild card. That being said....I love Volquez...and Baker said that also. Making a statement like "He wouldn't be putting up numbers like that in Cincy" is amusing. I miss him but that doesn't mean that I would undo the trade if I could.
Tim McCarver: Baseball Quotes
I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.
The Rangers always seem to produce good young hitters which makes it even more puzzling they would trade a young stud arm like Volquez for an outfielder. Well, it shouldn't surprise me because this is the same organization that dealt John Danks to the White Sox and Chris Young to the Padres. They could have a pretty tough rotation right now if they had held on to just two of those guys.
Totally agree. The Reds would be scoring more runs, but would they score enough. It's a question that will never be answered unfortunately. As for Volquez or any young pitcher, right now he's the belle of the ball, but what if he gets injured? I really like having him on the team, but you cannot ignore offense just to get pitching. Our pitching is 100% better than in 2006-07-08, but guess what? We're on track to have nearly the same record as in 2007. Why? The offense is gone. Ponder that for a moment.
While you are pondering, today on one of the talk shows they had a guy from FOX and a guy from ESPN on and the subject went to why certain teams are shown on TV. The caller was griping about the Red Sox and Yankees being on all the time. One of the guys (don't remember which one) said the Yanks and the Sox are on because they are exciting and score a lot of runs. "No one wants to watch baseball where there is no scoring. 2-1 games are boring to the general public. Maybe not to the baseball purist, who makes up maybe 10% of the fan base, but to the everyday fan, they want to see home runs and 10 runs scored." This is not the exact quote but close
