my opinion is that a cardboard cutout of Johnny Bench would be an upgrade

my other opinion is that Redhawk thinks too highly of the Billings hitters if he thinks that all of those guys have a better than average shot.

I think that Johnny Bench now, even at his age would be better.

I think I do to, but once I got down to Rookie ball level its kinda hard to judge who has a shot so I just went with those who are having some fairly good years thus far

truly out of that group I only see Soto, Buchholz, and Sapplet as guys who once they get High A/AA being considered serious prospects. I put Means and Day cause I like what they bring to the table and Stovall cause he is a local guy

At this point in those players careers its hard to tell...Alot can change for those guys in 2 to 3 years.

Same thing could be said about Dickerson over Patterson.

I would have to say yes. His OBP has risen from .333 last year in Louisville to .373 this year. His BA has also risen from .252 last year to .295 this year. He has shown some improvement as a hitter this year. As far as fielding, he has thrown out 26 of 69 baserunners this year; I think that is pretty good.

if the reds continue to fall back i say we dump/trade ross and bako keep valentin for his pinch hitting bat and his versatility defensively...bring hannigan up and see what we got!! The 2 main prorities this off season should be to stabilize the catcher position and bring in some RH batters that can balance out this lineup...IMO

well yes i think we all on this board know he stinks defensivly...what i meant was he is able to "play" at three positions which could give someone a day off. if i had my way he wouldnt even be on the team

The main thing holding Hanigan back is a total lack of power. I mean no power whatsoever pretty much not even 2B power. His OBP has always been high and he's a decent defensive player. Roll him and Tatum into one guy and we'd have a big league catcher.

Would be nice to go out and find someone who can be the everyday starter and then have Hanigan as the backup. I'm not even looking for anyone special at this point to be the starter; I'd even take someone like John Buck. Plus, the Royals might want to keep Olivo, so Buck could be expendable for cheap.

agree. no reason to spend $1-2M on a backup catcher if we have someone who can do the job for the minimum. The Reds can also go out and sign another guy to a minor league deal for extra insurance ( like they did with Bako ).

I'd like to see Dickerson here this year to get some major league at bats. He has speed, some power and plays good defense in CF.
He has hit righties well this year. Could be a cheap 4th/5th OF next year.
