All 3 should be at AAA after the ASB, the only problem would be finding the roster space.

Re: Three Chattanooga Lookouts named Southern League All-Stars

The article on the Southern League home page was incorrect. The Lookouts have four players on the All Star Team. Eric Eymann was ommitted. See below:

    Tuesday, July 1, 2008 Chattanooga: 4 Lookouts all-stars; Valaika a Futures pick

Three weeks into the season, Eric Eymann was a Chattanooga Lookouts utility infielder with a .190 batting average.

Monday, Eymann was named to the North Division roster for the Southern League All-Star Game. The game is scheduled for July 14 at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.

“I think you always have to imagine yourself being what you want to be as opposed to what you are at the time,” Eymann said. “I imagined myself being there, and I imagined myself being in the starting lineup and showing what I can do, but the whole team has a hand in this. You can’t get RBIs if nobody gets on base.”

Other Lookouts named to the team were outfielder Shaun Cumberland (hitting .315 entering Monday night), starting pitcher Ben Jukich (7-3, 2.78 ERA) and reliever Robert Manuel (3-1, 1.27). Eymann, a third baseman, hit .302 in the first half and entered Monday with a team-leading 41 RBIs.

“What Eymann has done is taken the opportunity to be an everyday player and run with it,” Lookouts manager Mike Goff said. “To end up where he’s at right now and with the number of RBIs he has, I think that’s a tremendous accomplishment.”

Huntsville led all North teams with eight selections, while Carolina had six. The North’s starting lineup will be announced Wednesday.

Goff was hoping starting pitcher Sam LeCure (7-4, 3.46) and reliever Carlos Fisher (1-4, 3.63) also would be named. LeCure had a slow April, while Fisher has been used in a variety of roles, most recently as the closer.

Meanwhile, Lookouts shortstop Chris Valaika was named to the U.S. team for the July 13 Futures Game at Yankee Stadium. Valaika led the high Single-A Florida State League in batting average, home runs and RBIs before his May 7 promotion, and he hit .280 in his first 48 Double-A games.

“Valaika figured out real quick that you can’t make a living in the upper part of the strike zone in this league on fastballs,” Goff said. “He’s made some nice adjustments these last few weeks and has really done a nice job for us. Now he gets to go to Yankee Stadium, and he has no idea what he’s about to experience and what a rush that is.”

Chattanooga: Jukich to start at all-star game

    By: David Paschall

Chattanooga’s Ben Jukich was named Wednesday as the starting pitcher for the North Division at the Southern League All-Star Game.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Jukich is 7-3 with a 2.96 ERA through 17 starts and leads the league with 106.1 innings pitched. He was tabbed the starter over Carolina’s Chris Volstad, the No. 1 prospect in the Florida Marlins organization, and Huntsville’s David Welch, who threw a seven-inning no-hitter against the Lookouts on June 2.

“Those guys probably deserve it as much as I do.” Jukich said, “And I don’t really think other guys will view it as a slap in the face because a lot of it has to do with the day that your start falls on. I got lucky with the way the rotation fell and with the season that I’ve had, but every starting pitcher brought to that game could be the starter.”

Jukich, who was drafted by Oakland two years ago and traded to Cincinnati last year, will be playing in his first all-star game. The all-star game will be held July 14 at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.

Also named to the North’s starting lineup for the Lookouts was third baseman Eric Eymann, who will bat ninth.

    LeCure now all-star

Lookouts starting pitcher Sam LeCure (7-4, 3.40) was added Tuesday to the North Division roster for Monday’s Southern League All-Star Game in Zebulon, N.C. LeCure replaces Joe Bateman, who was promoted June 26 from Huntsville to Triple-A Nashville.

Cumberland should stay at AA and continue to play Centerfield because Dickerson should stay at Louisville and continue to play CF there. Both can be promoted next season. Dickerson has finally started to find for himself a solid swing going on 40+ days and he should remain where he's at so it can become a habit rather than a moment of clarity.

Dickerson will stay at CF in AAA, and Cumberland will most likely play right with Anderson and Mackowiak in left. The AAA OF SHOULD be Cumberland-Dickerson-Henry.

I thought they moved Cody Strait for the sole purpose of grooming Cumberland to play Centerfield.

That's what people are saying. I believe the Lookouts confirmed it.
