What is sad about the downfall of the NHL is that HDTV makes the sport infinitely more watchable. In fact, no sport benefits more in HD than hockey.

The signings of Mike Commodore, R.J. Umberger, Kristian Huselius and acquisitions of Raffi Torres, Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman signal the team has a clear plan of putting established veteran role players around a solid core. Under GM Scott Howson and Hitchcock, this team is starting to take shape.
If signing top level free agents ensured success in the NHL, I'm pretty sure the Rangers would have just won their 10th consecutive Stanley Cup. But their enlies NHL's greatness...truly the only sport where each team really does have a chance to win the Stanley Cup at the beginning of the season.

I hate seeing Vyborny go...although he really hasn't been a force, he's been around forever and I'm sure even casual fans are going to be sad to see him go.
