That '70 Ryan card was actually the last card I got to complete my 1968-present Topps collection. It is a brutally difficult card to get, being a high number and all. I paid close to 100 bucks for that card, and it is in kinda rough condition.
That said, I had a ton of fun putting those sets together.
The only tougher card from that era is probably the 1967 Tom Seaver card - his rookie, a high number and I am pretty sure it is a short print to boot. In the end, that will probably be one of the last '50s and '60s HOF cards I get a hold of.

Yes those high numbers from 1967 are hard to get. They were short printed. The common players are expensive. So I would imagine someone like Seaver would be really out of reach,at least for me.

I just opened a few boxes of them. I got an Adam Dunn/Ted Kluzuski card with a piece of Dunner's jersey and big Ted's bat in it, it looks really cool.

I would be interested in trading. I immediately put everything in sleeves when I open them, everything is in at least excellent condition, kinda pissed though a lot of cards nowadays aren't pristine when you open the pack anymore and sometimes have slight wear on the corners.

If you have a mystery redemption card, I would trade for it. I have a ton of game used/autograph cards.

    Re: Anyone collect baseball cards?

    Bumping this thread.

Need advice from fellow Griffey fans.

What range is a 1989 Upper Deck PSA 10 going for? By checking ebay of late, I'm thinking $200-$300.

I have about 10 of these cards, but none of them have been graded. I may have a 10, but I'm not willing to spend all the money to have them graded so they can come back 8's and 9's.

Anyway, I'm debating whether I should drop $200 on it. Is that a good deal?

An idea I had was to sell a few of the one's I had (ungraded) to pay for the PSA 10. Any advice from any graded card experts would be appreciated.

Also, when buying a PSA 10 graded card, is there something I should be looking for if I can choose between several of the same for a similar price?

What I mean is, does PSA give out 10's to cards that aren't perfectly centered? Meaning I should look at the scans (if they are not stock photos) and pay more for the one that looks the best.

I know Becket (BGS) graded cards and a 9.5 (gem mint) was the equal of the PSA 10. Now, I'm seeing BGS 10.0 (pristine) cards out there. I'm just wondering if the way they are grading these cards now is changing and it may now be easier to get a 10.

Most of my cards are from the 1970's with some sets in the 80's.

Rookies of note: Griffey Sr., Concepcion, Ozzie Smith, Eddie Murray and George Brett.

I would sell them all except for my Reds if the price was right.

Check Ebay. In all reality I think that is where you will find the actual price for baseball cards. It doesn't really matter what Beckett or a card shop says, it matters what Joe Schmoe is willing to pay for it.

Since I asked this question in July, I stumbled across a great site for anyone interested in buying graded cards. It's called VintageCardsPrices.com.

It lists every card that has recently been sold on eBay and the average price paid. For example, I'm in the process of upgrading my first set collected, the 1978 topps set (see my avatar to the left). I am completing the entire set in PSA graded 9 and above (at this point my set ranks 25th on the PSA set registry). If I go to Vintage card prices.com, I follow the links to the 1978 set and there it has all 726 cards in the set listed. Off to the side, it will have an icon for every particular graded card in that set that has a current eBay auction. You can either click on the auction and it takes you straight to eBay so you can bid or you can click on the card and it will show the last 20 or so auctions for each category (PSA 8, PSA 9, PSA 10, BGS 9.0, BGS 9.5, etc.) with an average auction price for the last 5 auctions. It has really helped me to gauge what my top bid should be. Using that guide, I recently bought a 1978 Pete Rose (PSA 9) for $10. It is booked for for $25 and I think I may have been one of the lowest winners for that card in sometime.

I agree eBay pretty much should be used as a price guide over any Beckett or even PSA's SMR (Sports Market Report), but it would be impossible to follow every auction without a tool like VCP. I would highly recommend it to anyone that buys graded cards. I think it costs $10 per month, so it would only be useful if you figure you can save $10 a month using it. One card (like my Pete Rose) may save you the $10.

I didn't realize the post was in July until I read your post. VCP seems like an interesting site I may check it out.

    Re: Anyone collect baseball cards?

I was just looking at some Jay Bruce cards on EBAY and I found this card:

That's one of the best looking cards I have ever seen. I would LOVE to have that card but there's no way I would pay 175 dollars for it. That's a thing of beauty... that card will probably be worth a ton of money about 20 years from now.

I was surprised to find Robinson played most of his 1959 season at first, and about half of the next season there - perhaps this was injury related?
That said, it does not appear he was very good at the position.

I read somewhere that Robby had a shoulder or arm injury in 1959.
