Jerry Gil to be converted to pitcher

    Per Louisville paper.

    Comings and goings
IF Jerry Gil was transferred to Class A Sarasota and will be converted to a pitcher. IF Andy Green was released.

About time IMO. He's always had a good arm.

I saw that a day or two ago and forgot to post about it.

    Good luck, Jerry!

Very interesting. Anybody know of a scouting report from his amateur days?
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

It had been assumed by many that he would eventually be converted to a pitcher anyway. The only surprise is how long it took. I'm wondering it was pitching on the side that resulted in elbow surgery a while back.

If he can get his BB/K ratio to be as good as his hitting ratio was bad (79 BB/646 K in 2578 minor league at-bats), he'll be a perennial Cy Young winner.

Hopefully he's recovered. He's just 25 with his birthday in October.

Wasn't Pokey another one you thought they should stick on the mound?

And who was the catcher the Reds tried to convert to a pitcher a while ago? Glenn Sutko is the name that sticks in my head, but I don't think it was him.
