    Re: Online Poker

No question Nevada is against the online gaming, but once upon a time, they were leading the charge to make it legal. Their reputation alone would kill off these sites in short order. I know I for one would feel more secure knowing that Caesers and the Nevada Gaming Commission was guaranteeing my payoffs.

I'm now up $7,200 over the last month. I used to play a ton of poker but took some time off because of bad beats, but I've got my game back pretty well. I kind of forgot how good I was. Here's a link to some of my stats.

Just watched 60 Minutes and I wouldn't trust any online poker systems after watching it. Think about it, any two or more players could be in cahoots together and you would never know.

Just got done watching the same program. I agree. Thank God I've never had the gambling bug.

I've been gambling online for about 15 years.

    Re: Online Poker

I liked playing online poker when I was in law school -- several people I know made a good bit of spare change off it.

I never have enough cash just in the bank to sit down in a poker room at a casino (most of which you need at least $200 for), but I was a fan of playing in $5 or $10 tournaments where the stakes are just high enough (once the idiots go out) for people to take it seriously but the initial cash outlay is relatively small.

Online poker filled that fun niche, but I haven't played in a while.

The DOJ says online gambling is illegal, but they have never really made a good argument for their position. They point to the Wire Act, but the text of the Wire Act makes it pretty clear that it is not aimed at players (it outlaws activities "in the business" of gambling). So far as I know, no individual gambler has ever been prosecuted by the Feds for online gamling.

A kid I coached a few years ago (high school tennis) won $70k in a Poker Stars tournament about a month ago.

I think as long as you stick with Full Tilt and Poker Stars there's nothing to worry about. The games there are legit. You play at some of the smaller sites (like Ultimate Bet) then who knows.

And the ban on online gambling is ridiculous. Tax it and regulate it, and everyone would be better off.

Yeah I saw that as well. I like poker also but never play for money online. But for fun I will occasionally play.

How does one go about depositing money to these sites anymore? I thought they weren't allowed to take payments from US bank accounts or credit cards.

That's really all the laws boil down to. Uncle Sam and the states don;t get a cut. Find a way to account for the monies and tax it and the government will endorse it.

U.S. banks and credit card companies are supposed to find a way to not allow payments to gamling companies (many of which, thankfully, have not yet managed to comply). What the companies are "allowed" to do according to the U.S. Congress is sort of irrelevant since they are not under U.S. jurisdiction.
