    Type II diabetes

I was just diagnosed about 5 weeks ago with type 2 diabetes. This is the kind where diet and exercise are supposed to keep it at bay(and either 1 or 2 metformin pills a day). It is not fun going from eating/drinking whatever whenever you wanted to not being able to do that. I am getting used to eating foods with no flavor and not being able to graze all the time but I need to exercise more than what I do.I was taking 2 metformin a day but had bouts of nausea so my doc said ok to just take one a day for now. I have lost 10 pounds since I started this. The main thing that sucks is having to prick my finger every night for the blood meter. You just have to get use to being more active and counting the carbs on everything you eat. Any other diabetics out there???

I'm personally not diabetic, but it runs in my family so I've certainly been around it. I know it's a tough adjustment; just hang in there and take care of yourself and make sure you stay healthy. Your body will feel better with the diet and exercise improvements, diabetes notwithstanding.

I was on Metformin for a while but it really hurt my stomach. My Dr. took me off it and put me on Avandaryl (sp?). It's not harsh at all on your stomach and it's helped my blood-sugar numbers too. You may want to ask your Dr. about being on that.
I've been diabetic since about 2000. If you excercise and watch what you eat you can keep your numbers down to an acceptable level. If I could lose about another 30 pounds I probably wouldn't be considered diabetic but I have found losing that last 30 or so pounds is very difficult for someone my age (45). Good luck with it!
