Re: Friday July 18th minor league updates

I had a good conversation with a scout who has gotten a long look this season at Mesoraco. His take:

    Arm Strength: Below average
    Release Time: Well below average
Potential Defensive Rating: 45 (20-80 scale), meaning a little below average.

His bat is going to be his best tool. The scouts do like him as a hitter.

It would be a rush probably, but I love the idea of resigning Dunn and using a platoon of Stubbs/Dorn in 2009.

Outfield configuration of Dunn/Stubbs/Bruce against lefties and Dunn/Bruce/Dorn against righties.

I just wish they were ready....

Dunn/Bruce/Dorn may be as bad as Dunn/Bruce/Griffey on defense. (OK probbaly not quite that bad, but it wouldn't be pretty.)

How About Dunn in LF, Bruce in RF and Cumberland/Henry in CF?
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

    Another good outing by Tyler Pelland tonight: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. He's got a sub 2.00 ERA in his last 10 appearances.

    Louisville trails 5-3 after 8 1/2.

Billings scored five runs in the first inning thanks to an Alex Buchholz 3-run homerun, his third of the season.

Pelland and Roenicke would give the Reds a lot of hard throwers next year, or even later this year.

Pelland, Roenicke, Burton, Lincoln, Bray, Cordero, possibly Affeldt.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if his defense doesn't get better. He'll need to hit a lot better than he has if he is going to survive a move to 1B or LF.

I would think that Herrera could get a look too as a lefty out of the pen...Viola could be another one that could get a look...Maloney and Livingston could be options as well...
